“He Who Watches Over You Will Not Sleep”

“He will not let your foot slip; He who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” — Psalm 121:3–4

Our God never sleeps. He is not distant or distracted, but ever-present, watching, guiding, and protecting His children through every storm. While human strength fades and systems fail, His care never falters. Day and night, the Almighty keeps watch over you.

When discouragement weighs heavy, remember this unshakable truth: God is by your side. As the beloved hymn “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” reminds us, His presence is constant and His love unchanging. Inspired by a bedridden friend’s faith in God’s tender care, Civilla Martin penned the song (first as a poem) in 1904. Composer Charles Gabriel gave it melody, and Ethel Waters later carried its message around the world, singing of hope that outlasts hardship.

Reflect on this: the same God who watches over sparrows watches over you. Take comfort, for our King of kings never sleeps, never leaves, and never forgets His own. Also, the same God who sustained saints of old will sustain you today and forever.

When life feels loud and restless, remember that God’s vigilance is your peace. You can rest because He does not. You can sleep in confidence because He stays awake, covering you with His presence and commanding His angels to guard your way.

Jesus reaffirmed this promise: “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) His care did not end at the cross; it continues through His Spirit, alive and active within you.

Look beyond the horizon and know the Lord watches over you always. Hence, when anxiety whispers and fear presses in, speak this truth aloud:

“My God does not sleep. He watches over me. I am safe in His care.”

Let this assurance secure your soul and renew your faith. Even when you cannot see His hand, trust that His eyes are upon you. He who watches over you will not sleep, and because of that, you can rest.
